“Learning to dance in the rain even when your cycle is on is such a beautiful thing”
The day it happened, I woke up early and decided to wear a flowy, floral chiffon skirt and white top to school. I wanted to look so pretty so the girls could ask me where I got my outfit from. Boy, if I had known what was ahead of me, I would have stayed at home. I was in my third class for the day when I had the sudden urge to run to the bathroom. I got up to ask my teacher if I could leave and as soon as I stood up, everyone gasped and then started to snicker or say ewww. Today, of all days, my period decided to start.
There is no #blackgirlmagic when your introduction to adulthood happens in front of all your classmates and friends. That’s why I was so glad when I got the chance to work with Tampax on their Radiant collection. This project was started to empower African American women to feel confident and wear whatever they want to wear even while on their periods.
Now as an adult, I wear whatever I want whenever I want even when it’s my period. Because of Tampax Radiant, I feel confident even if I’m wearing a silk dress or a pair of skinny blue jeans during my cycle. I wore my skinniest, lightest blue jeans to the Tampax Radiant event at the Magic City Classic last weekend and I felt confident and beautiful. Surveys done with African American women showed that:
- 4 in 5 African American women avoid wearing certain clothes during their period due to fear of leak
- 50% of African American women say they bring a jacket or sweater to wrap around their waist during their cycle when going out with friends and family
- A quarter of African American women avoid dancing while on their periods
- 50% of African American women use mostly pads for their period protection
With Tampax Radiant tampons you get the same protection of Tampax pads and tampons but in a more discreet and compact size. It’s resealable for a discreet disposal and most importantly it has a leak guard braid so you don’t have to worry about leakage. Confidence should be all year round and not have to skip certain days of the month.
The event during the Magic City Classic was amazing because we got to pass out these products to the beautiful African American women who came by our booth. We had the talented Traci Steele as our DJ with live music, dance offs and giveaways. The event couldn’t have gone any better.
Thanks to Tampax and Target, we got to give away a lot of these amazing products to a lot of beautiful women. You can pick up your Tampax Radiant products at your local Target or click HERE to purchase yours offline. For only $6.00 these tampons and will have you feeling your #blackgirlmagic without breaking your #blackgirlbankaccount
