“So, you’re ready to pitch brands, you’ve gathered all of the right information regarding how to contact them, you’ve been showing off on the gram and you’ve stepped your game up when it comes to your content.
You press send on the “pitch” email, the brand responds with “can you please use your Influencer media kit” ….and boom dead silence because you’re clueless and don’t have a clue what a media kit is…”
Hey Friend! I’m Ashlen Rene aka Media Kit Girl, and today I will give you a breakdown on what a media kit is and how it can help you as a savvy influencer and or blogger.
An Influencer media kit is a digital document or glorified resume containing information about your business, brand, product or event. They are mainly used to pitch to receive partnerships, collaborations, airtime on media outlets and or to showcase your expertise within your industry. Many entrepreneurs and business owners also use them for product/service launches as a package of information for clients, potential clients, sponsors, brand collaborators, etc.
As a Media Kit specialist, I’ve learned the basics of what should be included within your media kit and what you should just leave out. I’ve also had the opportunity to consult with different agencies and brand partners regarding what they look for within a media kit. Here are the top things that your media kit should include:
1. High-resolution photos (no snapchat filter photos, sorry)
2. A clear message stating who you are and what you offer (it’s always nice to inform brands on how you can help them solve their problems).
3. Social media insights and analytics
4. Important links
5. Contact information
Many of my media kit clients have collaborated and partnered with brands such as: Forbes, Tedx Talks, Target, Amazon, Teen Vogue, Red Bull, Ebony, VH1, Macys and their local news and radio stations. But most importantly they have been consistent within their pitch, it’s very important that you don’t get discouraged during your pitching process. Think of it as if you were applying to jobs with your resume, you know you’re qualified and your resume is top notch. Therefore, you continue to work behind the scenes, all you need is one “YES”!
