INDOOR PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS II: CAMERA

My second indoor photography tip is to get an actual camera. Shooting with an Iphone is great and good for now but if you want to advance, invest in a DSLR or SLR. But, if you can’t afford one right now, don’t let that stop you from using that Android or Iphone to create magic. Here are two side by side pictures! One was taken with my SLR Canon 5D Mark III and the other with my Iphone. Rule of thumb for DSLR and SLR cameras, you can buy an okay body and get great results as long as you have an amazing lens. The lens the comes with most cameras are not good at all. Focus on buying an okay body and spending most of your money on a great lens!

Sony Alpha a6000
Canon 5D Mark IV
Nikon D3500 DSLR

INDOOR PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS III: LENSES

Now, having a great body is always a plus, but like I said, you can have an okay body as long as you spend a little bit of coins on the lens. You want to look for a lens with low aperture especially when shooting indoors. The aperture is the opening of the lens that allows light to enter the camera. The lower the aperture the more light the camera can let in. So, look for f/1.4, f/2, or f/2.8. Also, always shoot in Manual mode so you can dictate how high or low your aperture is and you can also control your shutter speed as well. Here are some lenses that are low-mid to high.

INDOOR PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS IV: TRIPODS/REMOTES

Shooting alone can be kind of daunting, but if you have the right remotes, you can take a selfie with no hands on the camera…lol! All you need is the right tripod and a remote you can hold in your hand and discreetly use at your leisure. Here are some of the accouterments you’ll need to go along with your new camera, lens and light kit:

Here are some of my recent indoor shoots during Covid-19. All of these were shot with my SLR camera and my light kit from Amazon. My house photographs dark so I have to make sure I utilize my light kit so the images come out crisp and make my editing process easier.

These are all the tools I use to make sure I get the picture quality I need while staying indoors. Creating content is a major part of my brand, so making sure I’m still able to work is important to me. Remember in whatever you do, you have to invest in your craft. These items will make it easier for you to get a leg up in the game. Whether you just want to take fun family pictures during this time or create content for major brands, these indoor photography tips are right for you.
