Navigating The ClubHouse APP: Tips & More

Is Clubhouse the new wave for social media networking and community?

Hello, my name is Emma Ford and I am addicted to the Clubhouse app. Seriously, this invite-only platform is revolutionizing the way that business, community and education is happening. I joined 7 days ago and I have grown to over 1K followers, gotten contacts, contracts and created new friendships just by being my authentic self and giving value. So, you’re asking, what is Clubhouse, How do I join and How do I benefit from it? Look no further, I’m giving you all the tea.

Clubhouse is a voice-only chat app that allows it’s users to form connections, learn and grow through an interactive podcast-like platform. You have to be invited or know someone already in the app to be able to join. If you don’t get an invite, go ahead and download the app and wait for someone in your network to let you in. Once you’re in the application, here are 5 easy steps on how to find success on the clubhouse app. Remember, the storytellers, value givers and authentic people are the ones who will do well on this app. So, here are 5 tips on how to win on Clubhouse:

  1. Your Bio Is Major Key: The Clubhouse app searches by keyword and emojis. When you get into the application, go ahead and set up a great bio:
    • Let the first three lines be impactful and catch the attention of your potential clients and connections. The second line needs to go on to describe you and your business. The next three lines can be features, body of work or accolades. The fourth line can go into how you can help the individual or brand or business and lastly line 5 and further is how they can contact you.
    • Format your bio in the notes app before you bring it into the Clubhouse app.
    • Add emojis that fit your bio. So, if you’re a photographer, add the photo emoji or if you’re a boutique add the shopping bag or clothing emoji.
    • Link your Twitter and Instagram since there is no direct messaging on this app and you want to have a way to funnel your new connections to your other social media platforms.
  1. Your Bio Is Major Key: (see above)
  2. Following Is Key: your hallway (or main feed area) is where you can see rooms you can enter. The people you follow help populate your hallways. So, if you’re into social media, then follow social media influencers, marketing strategist and so forth. When you go into room listen and find people speaking that resonate with you and follow them and you’ll see your hallways become exactly what you want it to be.
  3. Speaking Up Is Key: For the first couple of days, go into rooms and get the feel of how the rooms are set up and platform works. I am an advocate of learning before speaking. Once you are comfortable, I advise you to raise your hand and speak up. But, when you speak, make sure you’re asking an insightful question or giving tips that will help further the conversation. Make your questions concise and when you add insights, break it down to three points that are powerful and helpful. Also, if the room allows, introduce yourself and your brand in a quick sound bite and how people can reach you for further information:
    • Example: Hi my name is Funmi Ford, I am a content creator, blogger, brand strategist and I help nano and micro-influencers land brand deals and monetize their platform. Feel free to message me on Instagram if you have any questions on how to grow or monetize your platforms.
  4. Starting Rooms Is Key: Make sure when the time comes and you feel comfortable with the space, you begin to start you own room. Not everyone is meant to start a room, but if you feel like this is the platform for you, then start a room and put your knowledge to good use.
  5. Taking Breaks Is Key: The app can be addictive. Read that again and know that I warned you. Turn off notifications for the app or you will be on there all day and that can be mentally draining and unproductive. With any social media platform, balance is important.

The beauty of the clubhouse app is that sometimes you will find yourself in rooms with celebrities, CEO’s, Founders of Fortune 500 companies and more. Networking is so important and putting yourself in rooms and spaces with people of influence is Major Key. There is a room for everyone and if you don’t see one, make one. Make sure you understand that the people giving value are the ones who will do well on the platform. So, with that being said, see you in Clubhouse.
